Seminario di liuto medievale (9 ore)

Venerdì 20 Gennaio ore 16-19, Sabato 21 Gennaio ore 10-13 15-18, Domenica 22 gennaio ore 10-13

Il seminario offrirà una panoramica del repertorio per liuto medievale con un particolare sguardo comparativo alle tecnica di plettro di cordofoni extra-europei quali l’oud, il robab afghano, il tanbur ecc.

Il seminario si rivolge a professionisti e appassionati della musica del medioevo e a liutisti rinascimentali interessati ad approfondire la tecnica di plettro.

Modulo 1 – Monodia e diminuzioni:

Tecnica di plettro

Ornamentazione

Analisi musicale del repertorio monodico del ‘300 Italiano e di esempi scelti dal Codex Faenza.

Modulo 2 – Intavolatura:

Tecnica mista plettro-dita

Strumming

Tecniche di intavolatura e analisi musicale del repertorio tastieristico del primo ‘400 in comparazione alle intavolature del frammento di Wolfenbuttel.

Peppe Frana:

Nasce a Salerno il 19 ottobre 1986

Appassionatosi in giovane età al rock d’oltreoceano e oltremanica, diventa presto l’incubo dei migliori insegnanti di chitarra elettrica del circondario.

Ventenne viene folgorato dall’interesse per le musiche modali extraeuropee attraverso la musica di Ross Daly e intraprende lo studio dell’oud turco e di altri cordofoni a plettro durante frequenti viaggi in Grecia e in Turchia, dove frequenta alcuni tra i più rinomati maestri: Yurdal Tokcan, Omer Erdogdular, Murat Aydemir, Daud Khan Sadozai, Ross Daly stesso.

Dall‘incontro con i membri dell’Ensemble Micrologus scaturisce l’interesse per la musica del medioevo europeo e per il liuto a plettro, di cui diventa presto uno dei più apprezzati solisti e insegnanti, specializzandosi nel repertorio trecentesco Italiano.

Dal 2013 al 2015 studia liuto medievale presso la Schola Cantorum Basilensis sotto la guida di Crawford Young, inaugurando la sua prima esperienza di studio musicale accademico.

È laureato con lode in filosofia presso l’Istituto Universitario “L’Orientale” di Napoli.

Collabora stabilmente con molteplici artisti e progetti musicali nell’ambito della musica antica, orientale ed extracolta e svolge una florida attività concertistica in tutto il mondo.

È il direttore artistico di Labyrinth Italia.

Medieval lute seminar (9 hours)

The seminar will offer an overview of the plectrum-lute repertoire with a comparative approach to the plectrum technique of efxtra-european plucked chordophones such as oud, afghan robab, tanbur etc.

The seminar is aimed at professionals and amateur medieval music performers and renaissance lute players who want to approach plectrum technique.

First module – Monody and diminutions:

Plectrum technique

Ornamentation

Musical analysis of IV century Italian monodic repertoire and selected examples from Codex Faenza.

Second module – Intabulations

Plectrum-finger technique

Strumming

Intabulation techniques and musical analysis of early XV century keyboard repertoire in comparison with the intabulations of Wolfenbuttel fragment.

Peppe Frana:

Passionate from a young age about rock music from America and overseas, he quickly became the nightmare of the best electric guitar teachers in the area.

At 20 he was dazzled by interest in modal music from outside Europe thanks to the work of Ross Daly and took up the study of Turkish oud and other cordophones played with a plectrum, making frequent trips to Greece and Turkey. There he visited some of the most renowned maestros: Yurdal Tokcan, Omer Erdogdular, Murat Aydemir, Daud Khan Sadozai and Ross Daly himself.

A meeting with the members of Ensemble Micrologus inspired his interest in European medieval music and in plectrum lute. He quickly became one of the most appreciated soloists and teachers specialising in Italian trecento repertoire.

2013 he has been studying medieval lute at the Schola Cantorum in Basel Switzerland under the guidance of Crawford Young, marking his first experience of academic music study.

He has an honours degree in philosophy from the Istituto Universitario Orientale in Naples.

He regularly works with many artists and musical projects in the world of early, eastern and non-classical music, his flourishing artistic activities mean he has performed in the most prestigious
festivals both in Italy and around the world.
